Working for Sustainable Tourism of Rihane Mountain
Preserving Heritage, Empowering Communities
In 2006, Hariri Foundation partnered with the Council for Development & Reconstruction to promote alternative tourism models in rural areas, capitalizing on natural resources, intangible cultural heritage, social diversity, and, most importantly, human capital. Hariri Foundation took Al Rihane Mountain in Jezzine as a case study, addressing sustainable tourism at different fronts. The project featured a public awareness component, promoting the natural and cultural heritage of Al Rihane villages.

Empowering Communities Through Tourism and Handicrafts
The project also featured a capacity building component, training local youth and women on the necessary skills in the touristic and handicrafts sectors. Towards the end of the project, project participants were empowered to act as local tourist guides and were offered multiple spaces to carry out income-generating activities in the touristic and handicrafts sectors.
