In 2000, the Hariri Foundation launched the “Anamilouna” program to empower women through the acquisition of traditional, skills, capacity building, job creation and career development within the handicrafts sector, particularly in weaving, sewing, embroidery, crochet, and decoration. This is why the program is named after women’s “anamil” (Arabic for “finger tips”).
The program aims to create job opportunities for women, helping them increase their income while also facilitating their entry into the workforce. A key aspect of the program is promoting and marketing their products to ensure their participation in local and international markets.
In 2024, the program was equipped with a specialized center and workshop space for training in industrial sewing and embroidery. The center organized multiple training courses for 47 women to learn various handicraft design and implementation techniques.
Today, 28 women contribute to the production lines of Anamilouna and to their own handicrafts as part of the workshop space. Those have had the opportunity to participate in promotional activities and exhibitions, enhancing their market presence and contributing to the program’s mission of creating sustainable income opportunities for women.
With the aim to expand the income of women participants in the Anamilouna program, the foundation continues to partner with heritage sites to exhibit and sell oriental garment crafted by those participants. The program also has a designated exhibition space in Saida’s historic district to exhibit and sell those products to both tourists and guests.
